| Oakland's
Paramount Theatre is one of the finest remaining
examples of Art Deco design in the United States.
Designed by renowned San Francisco architect Timothy
L. Pflueger and completed in late 1931, it was one
of the first Depression-era buildings to incorporate
and integrate the work of numerous creative artists
into its architecture and is particularly noteworthy
for its successful orchestration of the various
artistic disciplines into an original and harmonious
whole. |

The
Oakland Metro is a black box theater and opera
house, located at 201 Broadway just one block
from Jack London Square in Oakland's thriving
downtown entertainment district. |
|
|
|
|
|
| The
venue opened on December 1, 2001 with the Oakland
Opera Theater's production of Gertrude Stein's Four
Saints in Three Acts. It is a non-profit performance
venue, and a program of Oakland Opera Theater -
a 501(c)(3) organization. Formerly a blues club,
a Greek tavern, and a cabaret, the building stood
vacant for three years before interior renovations
where completed just in time for the opening of
the opera. |
